Initial Line Up For Del Fest 2010 Announced

Despite it only being October there is already something to look forward to, Spring. That's right I said it, Spring. I realize it's 5 months away, but if High Sierra Music already has their eye on the pulse of spring time then why shouldn't you. Today Del McCoury in conjunction with High Sierra announced it's 3rd annual Del Fest scheduled to take place Memorial Day weekend 5/27 through 5/30 2010 at the Allegany County Fairgrounds in Cumberland MD. The initial line up consisting of some heavy hitters in the bluegrass world including Del McCoury Band, The Travelin McCoury's, Yonder Mountain String Band, Railroad Earth, The Avett Brothers Keller Williams, David Grismans Bluegrass Experience, and many more to be announced.

I had the pleasure of attending the first Del Fest. It was one of the best festivals I have been to out of many many over the years. It was at Del Fest where I was bitten by the bluegrass bug as they say. It doesn't get much better than 4 days of  fun with like minded folks, the sounds of banjo's and mandolins pickin and the horns of freight trains a rollin along the mighty Potomac. Check out my photo's from Del Fest 2008 and try to tell me you're not going to have a blast.

I hope to see you at the festival. Until then go out and support live music.

A Cosmic New Years Eve In A City Near You

I've compiled a list of shows that are going on around the country for New Years Eve and the nights leading up to the new year. This list consists of bands and performers of many different genres. If you're looking for something to do in your town or you're interested in taking a trip somewhere else for NYE get your start right here at the Cosmic Vibes Blog. It can't hurt to include music into your trip. I've been to many New Years Eve shows and it beats the old sit and watch the ball drop by a mile. What a way to ring in the new year with hundreds of people with the same interests, and in most cases a special night from the band usually to include special guests or special sets. I can't wait to ring in the year with Lotus and MSTRKRFT in Philadelphia at The Electric Factory. Here is the list I've compiled so far. I'm sure there will be more announced as it gets closer to the holidays. Here's what I found so far.

BLABBERMOUTH.NET - ALICE IN CHAINS Performs On 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!'; Video Available

Check out this amazing performance from the new line up of Alice In Chains courtesy of Blabbermouth.Net and You Tube. Go out and pick up the new album "Black Gives Way To Blue". If you're an Alice In Chains fan you will not be let down. If you're not, it's better than anything you'll hear in heavy metal these days. This album offers a little of everything from Dirt to Jar Of Flies to familiarize new fans and bring back the memories of old fans. Yes there is that element that Layne is not there but Jerry Cantrell is an amazing musician/songwriter. I've always been of the opinion that Jerry was a huge part of the sound of this band especially after seeing his solo band. Of course Layne was also a huge contributor with his depressing lyrics and incredible voice, not to take anything away from him. Jerry is the sound of Alice In Chains. When you go see his solo band play live and they play the AIC songs, it has the same feel and sound. I was also always of the opinion that this band could someday survive again without Layne and this new singer proves it. The harmonies between Jerry and new singer William Duvall are exceptional. Even gave me a little of the goose bumps during some songs. This is a great cd and huge come back for a band that has been dead for 14 years. I give it  *****  out of 5

Enjoy
