Byrne Calls Out Bono on JamBase
I'm not sure what to think about this. I'm not a big U2 fan and I definitely think Bono is a hypocrite, however this sounds a little like jealousy on the part of David Byrne.

New Emergence News and Dates

Hello friends,
We just had another rockin show at Dogwood Tavern last Saturday night. Things are really starting to come together and tighten up. We decided to drop the keys and let Dan focus more on guitar, and also added Drew a local conga/percussion player who added a lot of flavor and rhythm to the set. It was a great fun crowd. Thanks to all who came out to support. Stay tuned for pictures and audio of the show. We hope to see you at Ragtime in Arlington this Saturday night at 10pm.
Emergence now has new dates booked for the fall. We are also currently looking for and interested in playing at other venues in areas including Baltimore, Annapolis, DC, Ellicott City, Rockville. If you know anyone booking bands or have a band and need an opener in these areas please drop us a line. We want to play at a venue near you.

Adam Yauch Has Cancer: Beastie Boys Cancel Tour on JamBase
Not very good news for Adam and The Beastie Boys. The headline says it all. They are canceling their tour dates including Lollapalooza which is now two weeks away. The word on the street is that The Yeah Yeah Yeahs will be replacing them. Read article below via Jambase.

Wolfmother Returns on JamBase
It's great to see the band Wolfmother from Australia returning. There haven't been too many hard rock acts out lately. They really rock and I really dig them. Be sure to check them out this summer as they embark on a tour with The Killers. See the article and tour dates below via Jambase.

The Results Of An Election
Are You Getting the Change You Voted For? You can't vote for a President because you like him or because he's Joe Cool. Or has big celebrity status. Or because he's African American and you want the first African American President. Or because she's a woman and you want the first woman president. You have to vote for someone because you know their policies and you either agree with those policies or you do not agree with them. Well President Obama's approval ratings are falling and America you're getting exactly what you voted for. Real change. Pretty soon it will be so changed you won't recognize it. President Obama laid out all of these policies during his campaign. This should come as no surprise at all. President Obama , and House Leader Nancy Pelosi are pushing through their liberal agenda full speed ahead and there is no stopping it.
When is enough going to be enough? Today I heard Vice President Joe Biden say "we have to spend money to keep from going bankrupt". I heard Senator Bernie Sanders say "most certainly it is ok to tell my friends on wall street who just got a $600,000 bonus that they're going to pay more taxes, and that the top 1% makes more than the bottom 50% so we're going to tax that top 1 %" in regards to how we're going to pay for the so called health care reform. I heard Nancy Pelosi say "we worked until 1:30 am last night to get this done, we have to pass health care reform. This is what we've worked for our whole careers. We have the support of the American people."
I do not believe they do have the support of the American people. They don't have my support. They definitely don't have support from the CBO (Congressional Budget Office) a non partisan agency headed by an appointed democrat. A report out Thursday says the following about the new health care plan the democrats are proposing. "The costs of these health care bills are going in the wrong direction. We do not see the sort of fundamental changes that would be necessary to reduce the trajectory of federal health spending by a significant amount. And on the contrary the legislation significantly expands the federal responsibility for health care."
Yet President Obama, Bernie Sanders and Nancy Pelosi will not acknowledge this report and are going to try to force this bill through before the August congress break because they know that the air is starting to seep out of the balloon if you will. If people start to realize what's in this bill it's never going to pass. Well guess what? People are starting to realize, they're starting to speak up and I'm one of them.
They want to tax the rich and add a surcharge to small businesses like the one I work for to pay for this bill. Now I'm no rich man, but if they start taxing the people like my boss and the company that he owns and I work for. Who do you think is going to take the hit? Him, or me and other co workers. Just like when prices go up, we pass them along to our customers. If taxes go up that comes out of our bonus at the end of the year or maybe our salary. Or it could mean some one gets laid off to make up the cost. They've been touting if you like your health care, fine you can go ahead and keep it. They tend leave out the fact that you will also be paying for the 40 million people or so that will get free health care because they do not have it now for a variety of reasons. It is not our fault that some people do not have health care. It is not our fault that some people make $500,000 a year and some people make $50,000, and it's certainly not the governments business how much money we earn and what we do with it. The key word is earn. The people on that bottom 50% have the same equal opportunity and right to earn $500,000 and health care as any one else. Believe me I'm on the bottom 50%.
They're saying this is all necessary for our country or else there will be huge consequences if we don't. Just like the bail outs, just like the stimulus and just like the car companies. If we do not do something they're going to fail. Well what has happened? Since the car bailout both companies that took money have gone bankrupt. In six months they have taken over the banks, two car companies, and now they're trying to take over health care. We have lost 2 million Jobs since the stimulus that was supposed to create or save jobs. We have spent 10 trillion dollars since President Obama took office in January. President Obama and his administration need to stop putting all of the blame on the Bush Administration at some point and start accepting this economy as their own. I think the time is now. Granted Bush spent a ton of money, there is no debating that. President Obama and the democrats are on pace to spend record unprecedented amounts of money. If we don't start to speak up about it now, America is going to be a different place by the next election. Just take look at Amtrak, and The Post Office. The government needs to stay out of running businesses. Of course I am aware of the fact that a lot of people think that we are doing the right thing and we're on the right track. I will ask this to those people. How do you like you're job and pay check now as compared to how it's going to be in six months to a year?
I understand and agree that something needs to be done about health care and the economy but spending a record amount of money is not the answer. When you have no money in your bank account. Do you go tell your wife or husband to go out and buy a new Mercedes? No you hunker down a cut back and do the right thing for your family. Congress and the President need to do the right thing for us and stop looking after their own special interests.

Below is a little piece I wrote on the issue before the election in October.

"Raise your hand if you like your money,
Vote for Obama if you don't.
I keep hearing the words spread the wealth around on the campaign trail. Why not take money from this person and give it this person.
I have made up my mind that I can put aside all other issues but I cannot vote for some one who is clearly going to take my pay check and make it less to give it to some one else that needs it more. Giving a tax cut to 95% of Americans is misleading, because 95% of Americans do not pay taxes only 30% do. It would be right if he says tax cuts for 95% of tax payers. It is actually going to raise taxes for a lot of people.
Every one thinks it's just negative rhetoric but it's true your paycheck will go down. I can go on and on about the things that I don't like about McCain but he's not going to take my money away or my health insurance that my company provides to me for free.
Out of Fairness Joe biden says?
Joe Biden said at least five times in last night's debate that it's only fair to take money from people who are doing better and give it to people who aren't doing so well. We have something called charity for that. I worked my ass off to make the money I make, and I'm supposed to give it to someone else who won't work as hard or isn't as fortunate. It wasn't fair when I was struggling either, but I made it to where I am by myself. Everyone else can too. Last time I checked we are allowed to make as much money as we want in this country.
They already take plenty of money out of my check, maybe they should learn how to spend it better."

It's Always All Good At All Good Festival
Another All Good Festival has come and gone but the memories will remain forever. This past Sunday July 12th, culminated the 13th annual and my 7th All Good Festival at Marvin's Mountain Top in Masontown, West Virginia. It is now two days gone and I can't stop thinking about how much fun it was. Every year I say I'm going to All Good no matter what next year. To think that I almost didn't go this year is just ridiculous. Now I look back and say what was I thinking. Now once again I am saying it, I am going next year no matter what the line up is. All Good is the most fun place I have ever been to and proves to be every year. The line up for me wasn't the strongest I've seen, however the bands that I did want to see brought their best to the mountain top. I wouldn't say that it's the best one that I've been to but it definitely had it's great moments. There was no shortage of fun, festivities, fun friendly people, debauchery, fireworks, freaks, boobs, booze, face paintings, costumes of different sorts, hula hoops and of course music which is what brings the whole All Good community together. All Good is just one big happy family and no one leaves unhappy except for the ones who don't follow the very few rules they do actually have.
I won't be able to give a review of the entire festival because I was not able to check out all of the acts. I was able to see a good amount of music though. Friday night we arrived, set up camp had and headed right down for the always entertaining Les Claypool and his Fungi Band. Les is never a let down, always bringing his odd sense of humor to the stage along with his funky slapping bass beats and of course costumes and masks. Also breaking out a stellar version of Southbound Pachyderm a song from his Primus days.
After Les Claypool's freak show was the much anticipated Bob Weir and Ratdog. Bob Weir just coming off of tour with The Dead came to play and play loud. I didn't have high expectations after seeing The Dead twice in Philadelphia last month. Well I was proven wrong to say the least. It was an incredible show. I would almost go as far as to say they were better than The Dead in Philly but that might be stretching it just a little. They started out with an eighteen minute Truckin. Then into a trippy six minutes of Tomorrow Never Knows from The Beatles, Lucky Enough, Big Boss Man, Money For Gasoline, Maggies Farm, Loose Lucy. Then a nineteen minute, probably the best I've ever seen Eyes Of The World. Then back into another eleven minutes of Tomorrow Never Knows with Les Claypool, and Al Schnier of Moe. joined them for the encores China Cat Sunflower>I Know You Rider to finish it off. Up next for a late night set which is always fun was Moe. I've seen Moe. many times and come to love this band over the last decade but I was just too exhausted from the long day of travel and party to hang for the entire set which lasted from 1am. until 4am. I am told. The parts I did catch sounded awesome.
Saturday we were up and at it by 1pm for the hot bluegrass quintet Cornmeal. I've got to tell you that you have to check this band out. They are a charged up Bluegrass band with a hint of Jam rock, Blues, Jazz, and Funk. I think they are a great band and a lot of fun. After Cornmeal came the always funky band out of Baltimore The Bridge. A little bit of down time before we checked out Jeff Austin and Brendan Bayliss strum some beautifully written acoustic tunes for about a half an hour. Bucket Head was the next act we caught. I had never seen him play so I was interested to see what he was all about. Not bad but after about twenty minutes of him playing guitar chords and solos over recorded drum beats, I just got bored with it. Next up for us at 6:30 it was time for one of my favorite bluegrass bands Yonder Mountain String Band out of Colorado. I need not say anything other than get this bands cd's if you like Bluegrass. They're fun, they're danceable, they've got great melodies and long energetic pickin jams. my way. An electronic outfit out of California called STS9 came up next and the glow sticks just started flying every where. Hundreds at a time, fire works as well. This is when All Good really becomes All Good. The vibes that you feel when your seeing and hearing all this crazy stuff is just insane. You sometimes can't believe it. It is off the chain fun. The Headliner for Saturday night was Ben Harper who I missed, due to another long day of partying. Followed by an awesome fireworks display which woke me up. Then the late night band was Umphreys Mcgee who I'm told played Shine On You Crazy Diamond and Thriller as their covers for the night. I don't know much more about their set except that they played until 3am.
Sunday was rest and clean up day for me, others continued the party but I had a long drive ahead of me. In the mean time I was able to watch a new band for me, but one that has been around for quite a while called The Recipe. I really did dig this band. They announced a tour at the show and I will be definitely checking them out again. At 2:40 was Tea Leaf Green our of San Fransisco. Another band that I really wanted to see so I stuck around. They are one of my favorite rock and roll bands out right now and Rolling Stone's 2010 rock band of the year. I think any rock and roll fan would be a fan of this band. I have seen them at least a dozen times now and staying late paid off as I was able to meet members of the band, get a picture taken with them and tell them how much I appreciate their music.
What a way to spend a weekend in mid July with beautiful mountains music and people all around. We had a camp site of thirteen people, and it was the most fun I have had in quite some time. Well since the last All Good I guess. We met some interesting characters throughout the weekend as always. The highlight of the weekend for me was getting to know some of the new friends that I met, as well as laughing and partying it up with old friends. What more could a person ask for.
