Pitchfork TV is featuring Jane's show and SXSW Fest

This show as well as tour and new show announcements seem to be getting a lot of traction in the press. This must be the video from the guy that I spoke of that was on the stage filming. This is unbelievable footage. I don't think any video exists of this quality from this band. These are by far the best videos of the show that have surfaced. They are soundboard quality and Pro shot video. Everything stands out. Perry's phasers and echoes are amazing. The average listener usually wouldn't even know that he used this. Absolutely amazing. This show keeps getting better and better every time I listen or watch.

Another show is confirmed for SXSW ( south by southwest fest) Austin Texas, March 21st @ the pangaea

Galactic on Jam Cruise

A friend of mine passed this link along to me today. It's a link to a band called Galactic. It is a band that I've been checking out for about 5 or 6 years now. I highly Recommend them if you like to get down and funky. I just watched the first two songs from their performance on Jam Cruise last month, and it's riveting. This band brings it on for special performances such as Mardi Gras or Jam Cruise, and this is one of those times. I thought I'd share it with you all. Maybe turn on some new Galactic fans or maybe turn on some old Galactic fans to some prime footage of the band at their best with special guests including Big Sam's Horn Section, Bonerama and more
By the way: I'd pay special close attention to the drummer ( Stanton Moore) he lights up any room.

You tube videos from Jane's show in L.A

It has been four days now since the show. This show has had such an affect on me, I can't stop thinking about. I've felt this way in years past when they've gotten together and I've been able to see them, but not like this. They have taken my love and appreciation for this band to a new level. I now listen to their music with a different perspective and especially pay more attention to Eric's brilliant Bass playing. I gave it a listen in the car today on the way to work. What a way to begin the work day. It was just as good as I remembered it being. They were on fire.

Here are someones you tube video's from right around the area where I got to view the show from. The guy or gal did a great job. Hope you enjoy them. Watch them before the band takes them down. I'm sure they will.

An amazing evening with Janes Addiction and a few of of my new friends from LA

At first when I booked the flight I was second guessing myself. Now that I'm back I know I did the right thing. This was the most amazing experience to witness the newest and freshest era of Jane's Addiction. It was the most energetic, intense, crowd I've ever been in. I was drenched by the end of the night. Jane's brought it to the table last night for 500 of it's most dedicated fans. They took the stage and the crowd erupted. As soon as the first notes of Eric's Bass started for Up The Beach, it was chaotic at best. I really had to hold my ground and pay attention. Every second there was a person wanting to surf through the crowd, and even the occasional stage diver which I never understood because half of them either fall right to the concrete or on some small guy like me.

For me this was the 7th time I've seen them and the first having Eric Avery back in the line up. This was as old school Jane's as it gets. Right down to the size of the club. The difference was felt immediately. Eric brings that energy with his running around like a maniac and his loud rhythmic bass lines that start almost every song. Perry was as mesmerizing and flamboyant as ever, sipping from his grey goose and small amount of OJ. It was an almost flawless trip except for one jerk that felt that he needed to barge his way to the front and steal my spot that I came 3000 miles to get, he won because of his size. But I wasn't going to let that stop me from enjoying the show. Karma will get his ass.

I want to especially thank my new friends Jeremy, Kevin, Gilday, Courtney, and all the other people from the message board that I met in line, you took me under your wings. Thank you for making my night and trip more enjoyable. Thanks for the ride back to the hotel dude.

Here is a Rolling Stone review of the show and a link to the pictures I took.. I hope you enjoy them.

The next 48 Hours

I am now in get to LA mode. The Jane's Addiction show is in roughly 36 hours. I have been reading the message boards for the past two days. The people on the boards are super excited, and many are heading to LA just as I am, as we speak. There is definitely a huge buzz being created by all of these pictures popping up, little snippets of stuff being released to the public as rumors, all of which keep coming true. This is only the beginning. I'm sure the buzz that is being created is exactly what Perry Farrell is trying to do. He's a genius marketer and always on the cusp with the next cutting edge ideas.
Going to see a Jane's Addiction show with the original line up and in the city of angels where this movement was born in the late 80's is about as good as it gets for me and some others according to the fan message boards. The next 48 hours are going to be the experience and opportunity of a lifetime that may not ever present itself again. The picture I've added is again from http://www.nin.com/ it looks like maybe a sound check/rehearsal at the club.

Pinch me

I'm overwhelmed with excitement right now. I just got home from a jam session with some friends and of course went right to my email to check up on the latest status of JA because I'm obsessed. I am one of the lucky 500 to get on the guest list for the upcoming epic Jane's Addiction show at Echoplex in LA. So of course without even thinking twice about it I booked the flight and a room. Now that it's all said and done I'm sitting here thinking, am I crazy for going all the way to LA for 2 days to see a band. Not just any band though. I'm starting to question myself. Did I do the wrong thing. Did I just waste $300. Stay tuned for my reviews and pictures and my after thoughts because I'm going whether it was a bad idea or not and it's going to be off the hook. I'm almost 100% positive it's going to be worth every minute and penny.

Jane's Manager confirms Jane's Addiction is in Studio

So it is safe to assume that with all of these pictures coming out that the band is in studio doing something. Yesterday Janes manager Peter Katsis confirmed two things. 1 The band is in studio. 2 The new box set official release date is April 28th. There was a no comment when asked about The Trent Reznor connection and a no commenet when asked about a tour. No comment to me is almost as good as a confirmation in most cases. Another photo was released today on http://www.nin.com/. A friend also told me that he heard on the radio that Trent is producing a new Jane's Addiction album. This just keeps getting better everyday. The band is now preparing for their show Monday night at echoplex in LA @ 11pm. Ticket information is still sketchy.

"echoplex monday night at 11. this one is 18+ age limit. first 500 folks that register here get on a list that enables you to walk up and pay 10 bucks at the door. we wanted to do something in a proper club this time with a proper pa, stage and reasonably large room. and yes this is the largest amount of warning time that was possible. i wanted you all to know as soon as i knew. just home from rehearsal, really fucking hungry, so i want to go get me some chow, but i did want you all to know. see you there."

This is awesome. I'm signed up and ready to head to LA if I get the email

More action from NIN/Janes Addiction

These pictures popped up on http://www.nin.com/ website again today which leads me to believe that they are in studio(that's obvious). What are they in studio for is the question? Why is this information coming out on NIN website but not Jane's Addiction. This only leads to more speculation as to what's in the future for Jane's Addiction. That being said it's the most activity this original line up has had since the hit album Ritual De Lo Habitual in 1990. This is getting exciting. Will we see a full blown reunion teaming up with NIN for a tour? Will we see a new album? Will we see anything at all? We'll just have to wait and see, but I'll tell you that I'm as excited as hell to even see these guys hanging around together

Tea Leaf Green 9:30 Club Washington DC 1/24/09

People say that they don't make music like they used to, there are no good bands anymore, What happened to the music industry? I agree with that to a point, Clear Channel, Live Nation and American Idol have flooded the music industry with watered down, safe to listen to, what they call music. I defy you to say any of these things after seeing a Tea Leaf Green show.

A great night of music started off with some good ole bluegrass (yes I said Bluegrass) opening for a rock and roll show. The Hackensaw Boys of Charlottesville Va started out the evening to an almost capacity room. The Boys consisting of stand up bass, mandolin, guitar, banjo, fiddle and an assortment of percussion including a squeeze box and some tin cans. Normally you would see an empty room for an opener but that's not the case with this almost local favorite who rocked the crowd for a solid hour.

The night quickly changed direction when Tea Leaf Green hits the stage, starting off with a rockin version of "One Reason" filled with epic jams, right into "If it Wasn't for the Money", and then one of my faves "Reservoir". Setting the energy level for the night on the opening note, this crowd was in for a night of dancing and grooving. Now having had the chance to listen back to the show I can feel that vibe once again as I listen.

Song after song are filled with blazing guitar solo's up and down the scales from Josh Clark, Trevor Garrod's tickling of the ivory's or sometimes changing over to a spacey synthesiser or a funky organ giving it that Stevie Wonder superstition type sound. Then you have the rythmic thumping of just announced full time bassist Reed Mathis sometimes slipping in a few bars of Happy Birthday for birthday boy Trevor Garrod. Then after getting lost in all of that you hear the ever so patient drummer Scott Rager slip in his fills for his time to shine and you're thinking oh yeah there's a drummer too. This band is just full of talent, each member is always doing something that has you listening back and forth to what each is doing all in sync with each other all making beautiful music right in front of your eyes.

The band also did a killer rendition of "Wooden Ships" (Crosby, Stills and Nash). They rolled right through a 70 minute second set including "Freedom", "Incandescant Devil", "Keeping the Faith", "Devils Pay", an awesome new song called "Monster", and a sick "Panspermic" to close out the night without stopping for anything except for last call, sending the crowd home begging for more. With this band you get it all, rock n roll, funk, jazz, dancin, partying and good friends. All that for just $15. Tea Leaf Green are one of the hardest working bands on the scene right now always on tour it seems. Who says music is dead? You just gotta go out and find it.

Eric Avery in NIN studio

There have been rumors of a NIN/Jane's Addiction tour. A photo of Eric Avery from Jane's Addiction surfaced today @ http://nin.com/. As I said something is amiss. Maybe Jane's is recording a new album with Trent producing it. Or new NIN w/ Eric Avery either way the connection seems to be coming true

Coming soon

Tea Leaf Green/Hackensaw Boys @ 9:30 Club Review after I give it a listen, Key West trip and I was able to check out The Falls Church farmers market. I promised I'd share that with you as well. I will also try to recommend a cd each week of something I may have listened to throughout the week, something that has been out but just got around to listening to, something brand new, or something that was passed along by a friend. I hope you like it so far and stay tuned for more.

Happy reading:)

Encouraging changes @ Jane's Addiction website

Something is amiss. There have been major changes @ http://www.janesaddiction.com/. For the last three months since they have been revving this thing up, there have only been changes to their website when they have major news or a show that they are preparing for. They have only been subtle hints, such as a certain date but no venue and a cool old school Jane's concert flyer.

Here's what they had to say.

"Jane's Addiction will be performing again this Monday night February 9th. If you want to attend please register for our mailing list. The first 500 people to register that are 18 years of age and older will be invited to come. You will be notified over the weekend with show details. Continue to check this site for updates and announcements and please include your blogs here. We want to hear from you. Thanks!"

This show has now been cancelled due to last minute problems . I imagine there are tons of problems trying to get a small club to allow for a mighty giant like Jane's Addiction, especially in their home city of LA.

Here's what Eric Avery had to say in his blog. "im really sorry but the show i briefly blogged about, then pulled, is postponed. it seems we cant seem to put together one of these shows without some major malfunction. we will be doing something over the next weeks"

The new Jane's website now includes a blog, a new concert flyer. This is long awaited news. I believe this means something more is in the works to coincide with the release of their new box set Due out in April. This acticvity on their web page is one step away from a confirmation.

Del Fest Line up Additions

This years Del Fest has just added new bands to it's line up including Old Crow Medicine Show, Leftover Salmon, Dark Star Orchestra, Ollabelle, Crooked Still, Great American Taxi, and Ronnie Bowman and The Committee.

Click herehttp://www.delfest.com/ to see the already solid line up. Last year was the first Annual Del Fest and my favorite festival out of five, of the Summer. It was also an awakening into the world of Bluegrass for me. This year for me it will have to compete with Lollapalooza and Janes Addiction. Rest assured, you will have a great time at this festival and it is family friendly for the whole family. Tickets are $110 through Feb 23rd. Then they will go up again.

Happy trails

Falls Church Farmers Market

I was at city hall the other day and saw a sign for the Falls Church Farmers Market that I've heard so much about. Wanted to pass along a link for anyone who lives in Northern Va. to check this out. It's only open on Saurdays until noon so get there early. I haven't been yet but I stumbled upon this review of it. I will report back after I check it out for myself. It's walking distance from my apt if anyone ever wants to join me.

North Missisippi Allstars 1/23/09 Review

It is good to see that Luther Dickensen is still rockin out with his band North Mississippi Allstars on his break from The Black Crowes. The Black Crowes will resume their tour with a five night sold out run in late February early March in the intimate setting of Levon Helms' (of The Band) Barn in Woodstock NY. Then on to Europe for a short run. If you like good ole' southern rock n roll I suggest giving The North Mississippi Allstars a listen.

My love for Jane's Addiction

I became a fan in 1992, unfortunately for me it was after the break up and I never got to see them with Eric Avery. My friend Rich turned me on to them with the song Stop. It was at this time when I changed my taste from bands like Poison, Ratt and Cinderella and the hair bands to an edgier Jane's Addiction which totally changed the type of music that I've liked ever since. I became obsessed with them very shortly after. I tried to get my hands on every bootleg I possibly could. Through the site xiola.org and the once popular one-percent.com. I've studied and learned everything I possibly could about this band, including learning how to play all of the songs on drums. I have been inspired by all four members many times in many ways since. Whether by Perry's mesmerizing flamboyant stage presence, and lyrics. Dave's masterfully written lead and rhythm guitar shredding or Stephen and Eric's thunderous rhythm section. To this day I am still inspired, still obsessed and will travel anywhere and try to see as many shows as possible if they do tour. I am definitely going to Lollapalooza whether or not Jane's plays.

I feel the need to support anything that any members of this band do. I live in the DC area and have travelled all across the country for different Jane's and related events. In 1997 when the Relapse Tour happened I drove to Philadelphia by myself on a weeknight to see them play at The Spectrum. In 2001 I travelled to Indio CA. to see them perform at Coachella. In 2003 for Lollapalooza (during strays tour in DC). In 2007 I travelled to Chicago to see (Perry's band) Satellite Party @ Lollapalooza, and of course I saw the two or three shows they've played in the. I've also seen banyan (Stephen Perkin's side project), Dave Navarro solo and Panic channel (Dave and Stephen's other project without Perry).

My favorite Bass player after Eric by far was Flea. He just nailed everything on that relapse tour. I read that he studied and learned every one of Eric's original bass lines and played them note for note. Believe me when you listen back to those shows, you can definitely tell. I don't think either Martyn Lenoble or Chris Cheney provided the level of energy that this band needs and has. Not to say that they weren't great bassists I just liked flea the best. Now they have Eric back, I hope he stays, I hope they go on to do great things again. I think they are the best and most influential band of their time. I think they all continue to be influential on their own and I think they will again as Janes Addiction.

Inspired

Hello I am Jeffrey Socha

It is great to meet you,

OK, once again I have been inspired by someone in my life to try something new. I love to write and it has been brought to my attention several times that people like to read what I have to say. It has also been suggested to me that this would be the proper avenue. Some of you who are reading may know me well, some of you may know me from my past or through a friend, some of you may not know me at all. I think it will be fun. I don't know what to expect, and I intend to inspire people with my writings, no matter what the subject.

I know that I may not always be right with my opinions or facts as I am not an expert. I will try to leave all negativity out of this blog. I'm sure there will be times but I will try to keep it to a minimal. I will not bore you with my everyday comings and goings, unless I see or hear something through out my day that I feel inspired by I may tell you what I was doing to keep it in context. I will not judge or personally attack. If you spot any negativity please feel free to point it out. I will point out Hipocracy or that what I feel is hipocracy. All comments and feedback are welcome.

Thank you for your interest in my writing.
